The Right Career Programme

We believe that everyone should have a fulfilling career. So if you’re dissatisfied with your job or career, for whatever reason, and you want to know what you should be doing with your life, then the Right Career Programme could be just what you’re looking for.

“Finding the right work is like discovering your own soul in the world”

Sir Thomas More

The aim of the Right Career Programme

The Right Career Programme is an in-depth process that takes candidates on a journey of discovery about who they are, what they have to offer, what careers options they have and what careers they are suited to. The final stage, involves putting a Career Action Plan in place for achieving their career objectives.

By the end of the programme you will:

  • Know yourself better having explored what your skills, strengths, aptitudes, talents, values, interests and passions are
  • Have discovered what you want from your career and what your options are
  • And have a Career Action Plan in place mapping out how you are going to realistically achieve the next steps towards your career objectives.
  • Stage 1: Who am I?

The journey begins with an initial consultation between the interested party and Alastair Hill, the Career Coach, to assess whether the programme will match the individual’s needs. On deciding to join the programme, 'Stage 1: Who Am I?' begins with the candidates being invited to complete a number of exercises to help build a picture of who they are in terms of their skills, aptitudes, talents, values, passions and interests. Two notable exercises are the online Strengthsfinder 2.0 Assessment and the PRISM Career Explorer. The PRISM Career Explorer allows candidates to align their dominant behaviours and their work aptitudes with up to 900 possible career options.

These exercises are conducted as home assignments and the insights and learnings are distilled and clarified during an hour and half long face-to-face session with Alastair. At the end of stage 1 the candidate will be able to put together a summary/profile on who they are and what they have to offer.

  • Stage 2: What do I want?

The 'What do I want?' stage begins with an Ideas Workshop. The workshop is held with all the candidates. During the workshop a brainstorming exercise is conducted that gives each candidate the opportunity to get input, from the other candidates, on possible careers options he or she might like to consider. The diversity of the people in the brainstorm (e.g. different backgrounds, experience, life-stage, ethnicity etc) tends to produce different perspectives that invariably results in new career ideas arising not previously considered.

The ideas from the brainstorm are fed into the Ideas and Options assignment; the first of the Stage 2 assignments. The next home assignment, in this stage, is an exercise assessing the candidate’s essential and not so essential needs from a career. These needs are then cross-analysed against the career ideas and options. The resulting filtering process provides a good indication of careers ideas that are most suited to the candidate. Again the insights and learnings are distilled and reflected upon in an hour long 1-2-1 session with the career coach. After which a summary of “what do I want?” is possible.

  • Stage 3: Getting what i want

The third and final stage of the Right Career Programme is about “making it happen”. This is where the candidate draws on all their new found knowledge, insights and learnings and asks themselves the question “so what I’m I going to do about it then?” And in so doing, creates a realistic Action Plan to achieve their career goals. This process is supported with a 1-2-1 with Alastair.

Further 1-2-1 sessions can be requested, as required
